The TVGuardian monitors the hidden closed-captioning signal and compares those words to its database of offensive words and phrases. When an offensive word is detected it mutes the sound for the sentence.

The Details: The TVGuardian technology is a very unique and revolutionary product that uses the closed-captioning to detect and mute profanity. This technology has some limitations. The TVGuardian’s input is a tuner. The commonest tuners are Cable Boxes and Satellite Receivers. The DVD movie or TV show will have to have concurrent closed-captioning. DVDs distributed by Universal Studios and a few movies distributed by Fox will not work with the TVGuardian because they don’t use closed captioning with their DVD’s. VHS videos from Universal Studios and Fox WILL work with the TVGuardian. The TV Guardian detects profanity by reading the closed-captioning signal. Once in a while, on account of errors in the closed-captioning signal, bad words may slip through. The TVGuardian will not work with streaming internet content from products and services like Netflix or Hulu.

TVGuardian LT simply mutes phrases with foul language; it does not display closed captions like previous models.
Works with any HDTV, Standard TV and/or Audio Receiver. Learns standard IR remote regulate codes to mute both a TV and an Audio Receiver.

Input Connections: Two Yellow (Composite Video) port. This connection is REQUIRED for the TVGuardian to detect the closed-captioning and filter the language. Your Tuner, DVD Player, Satellite Receiver or other source will have to have and use the Composite Video output. Online streaming like Netflix or Hulu is NOT supported.
Output Connections: Dual IR Cable. This cable will connect to your TV and home theater receiver. When the TVGuardian detects profanity it’s going to simulate pressing the Mute button and will prevent the offensive phrase from being heard.
